Family Mediation

When communication with your partner or ex-partner may have broken down, Mediation provides a safe neutral place where you can thoroughly explore all your family issues, including your home, the family property and finances, children and future arrangements. With the guidance of a totally impartial Lawyer-Mediator, you resolve your own problems in your own way, at your own pace and in confidence.

The Family Mediation process we offer is a voluntary, confidential series of meetings with a trained Lawyer-Mediator, who explores all your family problems with you, and helps you and your partner or ex partner to resolve them. Your Mediator is completely independent and impartial and will not take sides or make decisions for you, but will assist you to find solutions in confidence, you will receive help and information but not legal advice and all the decisions will be made by you.

Mediation costs £85 per hour per person plus VAT inclusive of all telephone calls, letters, office administration, photocopying, and preparation of all relevant documents including your Mediation Agreement, Financial Disclosure Document and final Mediation Summary.

Following an initial ‘information-taking’ meeting, your first session with your Mediator will usually last 90 minutes and will be used to identify and explore all the issues to be resolved and the information you have provided. We can provide as many sessions as you need to resolve your problems and offer ongoing future assistance where necessary.

Mediation is cost-effective and usually means you don’t have to go to Court. You can each take independent legal advice on the decisions you make.

Although the “agreement” you reach at Mediation is not legally binding, if you are divorcing, your Solicitor can usually convert your decisions into a Consent Order, which can be sealed by the Court and made legally binding.’
