A Notary Public is an internationally recognised officer of the law, holding public office and is empowered by the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury to authenticate individual and corporate identity, signatures, documents and facts by means of an internationally recognised ‘Notarial Act’ bearing the signature and seal of the Notary.

Gillian Anderson and Peter Skinnard, Notaries based at the George Place offices of Blight Broad & Skinnard solicitors; operate independently of the solicitors’ firm to provide the following Notarial Services in accordance with the Notarial Services Terms and Conditions set out below:

For Businesses

  • Authentication and attestation of execution of foreign and UK corporate and commercial documents for use abroad including:
    • Powers of attorney
    • Company formation and opening of international branches and subsidiaries
    • Transfer of shares
    • Trade agreements
    • Tenders and contracts
    • Commercial Mortgages for International financing
    • Verification of identity of appearers
  • Certifying copies of company resolutions, minutes, reports and other company documents
  • Notarising certificates of good standing
  • Applications for patent registration or assignment
  • Protest of bills of exchange
  • Providing certificates to authenticate intellectual property rights
  • Notarising statements regarding UK and international copyright infringements
  • Affidavits of English corporate and commercial law for use abroad

Preparing and notarising:

  • Powers of Attorney by companies
  • Affidavits, statutory declarations, sworn statements and depositions by company directors and officers
  • Deeds for the increase and reduction of capital
  • Amendments to Articles of Association
  • Appointments and removals of company directors and officers

For Individuals

  • Preparing a sealed certificate for attachment to a pre-prepared document and witnessing your signature
  • Authenticating the content of documents

Preparing and notarising:

  • Affidavit or Statutory Declaration
  • Power of Attorney to deal with the purchase, sale, lease, inheritance or mortgage of foreign property

  • Documents for Marriage abroad
  • Change of Name deed
  • Standard Sponsorship Declaration or Sponsorship Declarationin accordance with specific Embassy regulations (for UK use)

Legalisation or ‘Apostille’ can be arranged for you either by post, via agent or in person at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office or relevant Embassy.

All the above Notarial services can be provided seven days per week either in London or the South West at:

  • Your own premises;
  • George Place, Callington in Cornwall PL17 7JH; or
  • Alternative premises convenient to you which will be arranged by the Notary.

A mobile ‘same day’ out-of-hours service is also provided where corporate or individual Notarial services are required as a matter of urgency subject to the availability of the individual Notary.

Identification

You must bring with you to your first appointment your current passport; driving or firearms licence or armed forces pass (with photograph); together with a recent bank statement or utility bill as proof of residence. Corporate identification will usually be by inspection of original Partnership Agreement or Certificates of Good Standing and Incorporation, Company statutory books and a copy of the latest filed annual return.

Charges

There is a minimum fee of £60.00 per transaction. Fees for less straightforward work or multiple transactions are calculated at the hourly rate of £150.00 and according to: the complexity or value of the work to be done; time involved; urgency; number of documents to be notarised; nature of the documents; whether the documents have to be drafted by the Notary; number of persons appearing before the Notary; 25% uplift for work done out of hours. The hourly rate includes telephone and personal attendance upon you including arranging initial appointment; advice; preparation of documents and Notarial acts; telephone calls; e-mails; photocopying; storage and completion of Notarial register and protocol.

You may have to pay additional expenses (called Disbursements) such as: Legalisation or Apostille fees; Legalisation Agent’s fees; Courier’s fees; Special Postage; Translation fees; Companies House fees; Travel (except for travel between Cornwall and London); Premises charges. Fees and Disbursements will be notified to you in advance and may have to be paid by you before completion of the work .
